Greek Salad


Greek salad, also known as "horiatiki," is a traditional dish that has become a staple of Greek cuisine and a popular choice worldwide. Its origins can be traced back to the countryside villages of Greece, where it was a simple and nutritious meal for farmers and their families. The salad typically consists of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, onions, olives, and feta cheese, seasoned with salt, oregano, and olive oil. The combination of these ingredients reflects the Mediterranean diet, known for its health benefits and flavorful dishes. Over time, Greek salad has evolved to include various additions and adaptations, but its essence remains deeply rooted in Greek culinary tradition, representing the simplicity, freshness, and vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean region.


Ingredients:

2 large tomatoes, diced

1 cucumber, diced

1 red onion, thinly sliced

1 green bell pepper, diced

200 g feta cheese, crumbled

100 g Kalamata or Green olives

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and bell pepper. Add the feta cheese and Kalamata olives to the bowl. Drizzle the olive oil over the salad. Sprinkle with dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Gently toss everything together until well combined. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for an hour before serving to let the flavors meld together.
