Cretan Salad


Cretan salad, also known as "Dakos" is a traditional dish from the Greek island of Crete. It is a simple yet flavorful salad that highlights the fresh ingredients and traditional flavors of the Mediterranean diet.

The salad was traditionally made with barley rusks, tomatoes, feta cheese, olives, capers, and oregano, all drizzled with olive oil. Ingredients:

4 ripe tomatoes, cut into wedges

1 cucumber, sliced

1 red onion, thinly sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

100 g of feta cheese, crumbled

A handful of Kalamata olives

2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar

1 teaspoon of dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

Bread rusks


Instructions:

To prepare the salad, place the tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and bell pepper in a large bowl. Add the crumbled feta cheese and Kalamata olives. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to combine. Serve immediately and enjoy this delicious and healthy Cretan salad!
